About Dr. Childers
A Pacific Northwest native with roots in Wallowa County, Ann Marie Childers is a graduate of David Douglas High School, Portland State University and Oregon Health Sciences University. Prior to leaving her animal practice to study medicine in 1988, Ann Childers was best known for her work as an Animal Behaviorist and talk show host for KXL Radio's Pet Projects. She joined the military in 1989 and served her internship and residency in General Psychiatry in the Wright Patterson Air Force Base/Wright State University combined military and civilian program in Dayton, Ohio. From the Midwest she traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii for training at Tripler Army Medical Center, where she became the first Air Force physician to complete an Army child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship. Dr. Childers practiced psychiatry in settings of rich cultural diversity, including Tamuning, Guam, Honolulu, Hawaii and Ramstein, Germany. She was a Major in year 2000 when she completed her military duties and returned to the United States. In 2010, Dr. Childers published her textbook chapter, Nutritional Aspects of Psychiatry, in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: The Essentials, edited by Keith Cheng and Kathleen Myers (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, publishers). Dr. Childers is a member of the Oregon Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Metabolism Society. She practices in Lake Oswego, Oregon where sees a number of patients in private practice.
